While it may be the tail end of summer, there’s still plenty of time to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Maximize your end-of-season fun by squeezing in some activities that may still be on your summer bucket list.
1. Have a picnic. Gather family and friends and a basket of goodies and head to your local park to play and eat.
2. Go for a hike. Wait for a breezy, sunny day and venture into the great outdoors with some gear and a hiking companion.
3. Make s’mores in a bonfire. No summer is complete without tasting that perfect combination of graham cracker, chocolate, and fluffy marshmallow!
4. Head to the nearest body of water. Cool off and have fun splashing around with friends.
5. Set sail. Rent a sailboat or canoe and paddle out to enjoy the serenity of nature.
6. Take a beach day. Grab your sunblock, a towel, and beach toys and allow the kids to play in the water as you soak up some sun.
7. Attend a musical festival. You can find these festivals in most parts of the country.
8. Go on a road trip. Hop in the car, roll the windows down, and finally travel somewhere that you have been holding off on going for one reason or another.
9. Visit wild animals. The zoo is an amazing family-friendly destination that will get the whole family excited.
10. Watch the sun rise. Take some blankets out to your porch or patio and watch as the sun comes up.
11. Treat yourself to locally made ice cream. There’s no better treat than cold ice cream on a hot day, and freshly made ice cream is even better.
12. Head to the ball game. Even if you’re not a sports enthusiast, a day spent at the stadium can lead to long-lasting memories.
13. Paint a picture. Take some paints, brushes, and a blank canvas to a beautiful outdoor setting and paint what you see.
14. Read a good book. Set up a cozy spot under your patio umbrella and read one of your favorite books cover to cover.
15. Host an outdoor movie night. Set up the movie projector, pop some popcorn, and watch a fun flick under the stars. You can also go to the drive-in theater.
16. Be a tourist. Choose a city or town near you and play tourist. Spend the day walking around, seeing the sights, and meeting new people.
17. Have a barbecue. Grill up some burgers and some fresh veggies from the garden and share an outdoor feast with family and friends.
18. Try paddleboarding. Before summer ends, try a new water sport like paddleboarding, surfing, or waterskiing.
19. Take lots of photos. Embrace your inner photographer while you’re out and about.
20. Do volunteer work. Work in your community garden, build a house with Habitat for Humanity, host a bake sale for charity, or plant a tree in someone’s honor.
